Sun enters Scorpio

10-23-2010

Pele by Sandra Stanton

Get ready for a shift in energy as the Sun moves from Libra to Scorpio at 8:35 am on Sunday October 23rd. From the relationship oriented Libra, we shift to the intense, passionate culmination of what relationships have to offer, for good or bad.

Each zodiac sign is ruled by a planet which colors the qualities of that sign. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, god of the Underworld. Scorpio wants to know what lies deep within the shadows of your psyche, the secrets in your heart, and the longings of your body. Because it is through these truths that real change occurs, even if it stings. It takes a powerful and clear will to direct the emotional force of Scorpio so that it  brings a positive and rejuvenating  transformation, not destruction.

This image of Pele, the Hawaiian Volcano Goddess signifies much of what I think about Scorpio. She lives deep in the mountains, her energy is the watery lava, powerful, hot, turbulent, increasing in tension, building in force. This force can be used for good, as it is in Iceland where the volcanic heat furnishes warmth for homes and hot tubs. Or Scorpio can hold onto its tension until it blows and everything around it is destroyed, as in Mt. St. Helena. But even then, new life is coming out of those ashes. This leads us to another of Scorpio’s  symbols, the Phoenix Bird, who burns to death in its own nest, only to be reborn from its ashes.

When the Sun enters Scorpio on Sunday we will have four planets in Scorpio including Sun, Mercury, Venus, and Mars. I’ll write more about this on my Changing Sky and Blog section of my website www.laishley.com

Sun & Mercury connect in Libra

Love! Romance! Friendship! Creativity! With the Sun and Mercury exactly conjoined in the relationship sign of Libra, it is a perfect time to reach out and communicate your feelings of love, friendship, and creativity. The Sun is your essential self and Mercury is in charge of networking and communication. When in the sign of Libra, they are working together to make connections that will open up new areas for love, friendship, and creativity. Have you been wanting to email that art rep you met last week at a Gallery opening? Just do it. Now. Don’t wait. Have you been slow to call back your date from last week? Feeling shy? No matter. Do you need to make a dinner date with an old friend you have been ignoring?Just pick up the phone. People will tend to be receptive now.  You might not get the exact answer you want, but you won’t likely get rejected either. Sun and Mercury will be hanging out in Libra until Wednesday Oct 20th. After that Scorpio is added to the mix and the results might not be as harmonious. These next few days are a pretty safe bet.

Sun moves into Virgo on Monday

Virgo by Linda Holt-Ayriss

This is a very lovely representation of Virgo, the Virgin. I don’t think Virgo is really a Virgin, but rather is pure in her heart and with her intentions. Virgo aims for purity of action, which does at times push into the realm of perfectionism, a problem anyone with some Virgo in their horoscope has to contend with. This desire for purity is part of the reason Virgo has the reputation for being analytical, critical, and picky. But that is only the dark side of Virgo, just like a huge ego is the dark side of Leo. Virgo actually balances the need for personal attention that is exhibited by Leo with a simple desire to be of service to others.

When I think of Virgo I think of my dear friend Andrea, a Virgo, who reminded me that Virgo is an earth sign, and is therefore very connected to the body and nature. This beautiful image captures the earthy quality of Virgo, which comes out in a commitment to care for the body through learning about healthy eating, exercise, and self-care. Virgo is ruled by the planet Mercury, hence her bright mind and curious intellect. She wants to know all about everything that could be helpful to herself and others, and can take in a tremendous amount of information, assimilate what is necessary, and then eliminate the rest. This Mercury influence gives her a fast mind that is geared toward discernment, a quality that can get out of balance and create a nervous self-critical quality. But, if Virgo stays in touch with her physical body through exercise, good nutrition, and time in nature, you could hardly find a more loving and giving sign. Her fault might be in caring for the needs of others more than the needs of herself. So during this month of Virgo energy take time to access your daily routine and make the changes necessary to bring yourself into alignment with your body and physical self care.

Solar Eclipse

This week the Moon wanes in its light as it gets ready for a New Moon on Sunday July 11th.

A New Moon is when the Sun and the Moon are right next to each other, with the light of the Sun so bright that the lessor light of the Moon becomes invisible. This is because the New Moon will be in the astrological sign of Cancer at 19 degrees on Sunday July 11th at 3:40 pm EDT.

There is a Total Solar Eclipse also on Sunday July  11th at 3:40 pm at 19 degrees Cancer. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon aligns exactly between the Earth and the Sun, blocking the Sun’s light (see diagram below). This solar eclipse won’t be visible in the US, or not many places at all since the path of the eclipse is right in the middle of the ocean.  For what this eclipse means symbolically to you, go to the Changing Sky.
